Taiwan is in talks with Amazon about using its Project Kuiper satellite internet service, a Taiwanese official told multiple media outlets on Tuesday. The deal could help Taiwan preserve communications if it were attacked by China, similar to Ukraine’s use of SpaceX’s Starlink service. Taiwan’s technology minister, Wu Cheng-wen, said Taiwan is considering doing deals with several companies, but that Amazon’s product was the most developed. “Amazon Kuiper is the most mature in their development stage so far, so we are discussing at this moment whether it’s possible to have a collaboration,” Wu told a group of reporters, according to Reuters. Taiwanese officials don’t see SpaceX’s Starlink as an option due in part to CEO Elon Musk’s business interests in China, the Financial Times reported. Amazon plans to launch its first non-prototype Kuiper satellites and start commercial service next year. Amazon has said it plans to spend more than $10 billion on Kuiper. https://www.taiwannews.co.. #Taipei Tech Forum #SpaceX 🚀
